Ethic:

As an adolescent, we moved around the country quite a bit. I went to work with my father and older brother every chance I had, building powerline. When I turned 18, I had accumulated enough experience that I was given a foreman position over a small 3-person crew, spending my day 200 feet in the air. Those experiences taught me as much or more as any other training I ever received. The value of hard work. The value of teamwork.

True teamwork means putting aside your differences and coming together for a common cause bigger than yourself. It requires selflessness and a close eye on the health and welfare of other team members.

The whole of a team will always be greater than the sum of its parts.

Teamwork:

The greatest team I have ever had the pleasure of serving with would be the US Army, 82nd Airborne Division.

As a quick-response force, we were constantly training and ready for the President's call to action.

During my enlistment, this happened twice: Once for the invasion of Panama [to stabilize the country and secure rogue General Manuel Noriega] and then again a few months later to protect Saudi Arabia from a pending invasion of Iraqi forces massed on their northern border.

With various ethnicities and assorted backgrounds, the resolve of the US soldier will remain forever indelible in my memory.

Crushing heat and humidity (130 degrees and only a few miles from the Persian Gulf waters) and changes in mission scope coming at us 3 or 4 times a week for 9 months, provided valuable life lessons. These lessons have allowed me to thrive in many challenging environments since.
